5 out of 10 colombian have purchased by internet from their smartphone

September 28, 2016

In the second study of 2016, the Colombian Chamber of Electronic Commerce (CCEC) revealed that half of the people who buy online in our country do it from a smartphone (equivalent to 5 out of 10 Colombians).

Among the reasons for this action prevailed comfort (with 50%) and ease of purchase (with 48%), because for users to purchase products or services online is synonymous with saving time and costs.

On the other hand, the most desirable categories to buy online in Colombia are trendy (35%), travel (30%) and electronics (28%), and credit card remains the payment method most used with 57%. Half of colombian peoble people are buying from their smartphones.

According to the CCCE, these figures represent a challenge for businesses that want to take advantage of this growing digital usual and stressed that there are companies that adapt easier than others, as in the case of companies that emerged in the digital world or develop all its business model over the Internet.

Therefore, it is important that entrepreneurs who have already taken the decision to sell online create suitable websites to provide this service. According to Google, at the end of 2015, the 50% of business pages made in Latin America were not suitable for mobile devices. This implies a bad experience for the visitor and quite possibly fewer sales for trade.

In fact, companies like Google have projects like Mobile Pagines Accelerated (AMP for short), which advise you about how to improve your customers experience when they visit your website on their phones and tablets.

Financial services

The sector of banking and financial services has changed dramatically due to the advancement of technology. In Colombia this industry stands out as one of the fastest digitalized sectors of the local economy.

As a result of the expansion of Colombian banks to other countries, and the growing importance of ICT within this sector, it becomes a necessity to develop hardware and software to meet the needs of banks and users, creating export opportunities and encouraging the arrival of foreign capital for the development of products and IT services. This industry stands out as one of the fastest digitalized sectors of the local economy.

Due to the level of expertise in the sector and the importance of information handled, Colombian banks require more tailored software with the highest international standards on security issues.
